Coastal Living Idea House in Newport

Newport has long been a favorite destination for oomph. This summer we came to attend the Opening Night of the Coastal Living Idea House designed by our friend Mark Sikes. Before we dressed for our night out, we had time for a harbor cruise.

In addition to the flashy yachts, Newport might be most famous for its famed Gilded Age history.  Some of America’s great families spent the summer months in Newport and built grand summer “cottages” with incredibly ornate décor and details. These homes are chock full of inspiring architectural details, many of which have inspired us in the creation of our Newport Collection.

The original Station House of the New York Yacht Club now sits on the grounds of  NYYC's Harbor Court in Brenton Cove. It's incredible how much the Newport detail on an oomph table mimics the Gothic trim on this building!

Newport never disappoints.

The Show house did not disappoint either! When Mark Sikes called and asked for some oomph for the Coastal Living Idea House he was designing we of course gladly obliged. We knew our West Coast friend would be a hit in New England with his signature "Blue and White Forever". No surprise there - it was, of course, fabulous and the party was fun too!

Mark used a little oomph all around the house and it was like a scavenger hunt going from room to room to spot it. Our Charleston Mirror greeted us at the front door and an imposing pair of Palm Beach Mirrors graced the stairwell hall.

The bathrooms were decked with oomph mirrors including our new Lyford Mirror and there were oomph tini tables scattered around on every floor.       The game room was our favorite! Mark chose a fabulous scale wallpaper and warmed this potentially unappealing basement space with wall to wall sisal.  Mark used a navy and cream ticking stripe and created a cozy built-in custom banquette wrapping the room. He added two tables and used two oomph Table-top Backgammon boards in New York blue to create the scene of a tournament underway. A bar and video room were steps away. This was not your ordinary basement space!

Summer wouldn't be summer without a little Newport, or a little oomph!
