Too Hot to Handle

July 19th, 2016
Once upon a time, at High Point Market, we were very, very, very, very hot. Our show room in Historic Market Square is lined on one side by chic, industrial, iron windows - which makes our showroom bright and sunny, but also extremely HOT! The unforgiving North Carolina sun in mid-April, pounds through the windows during the entire day with no place to hide. Historic Market Square is a renovated factory, with many interesting elements; the fore mentioned iron windows, brick walls, uneven floors, and less than perfect, drippy air-conditioning. Sigh. Zero for two on relief from the heat. Neither the AC unit or the open windows could spare us. And this was all too apparent during that one Spring day when we launched the Nina Campbell for oomph collection  to a packed house anxious to meet the cool, calm, collected Nina Campbell. "What you need is a Big Ass Fan . . ." she said matter-of-factly. Yes. Yes we do. But instead of just buying a white or black fan for the showroom - why not partner with the brand and add some oomph to the ceiling fan market?!?!  Why not a ceiling fan in oomph signature colors!! Fan_rainwashed Fan_pealegreen Fan_parakeet Fan_nyblue Fan_knockoutorange Fan_bolero To our delight, Big Ass Fans was willing to work with us! They were in the midst of launching a more residential friendly branch of their already extremely successful, "industrial" style fan. The Kentucky-based company was excited by our color palette and oomph for Haiku was born. Big Ass Fans collection of Haiku fans are what they call "Smart Fans." Each fan is equipped with SenseME technology that senses when the temperature needs to be adjusted due to a change in environment. Likewise, the fans are extremely energy efficient - only using energy when the temperature changes to maintain the absolute comfort level. The fans can even be controlled by your phone and via your NEST system!

Coastal Living Showhouse

July 1st, 2016
DSC_5471 The huge undertaking  to put together the Coastal Living Show House is mind-blowing. A completely-move-in ready home, with interiors by one brave designer, in a picturesque beachside location, waiting for one lucky family! Don't bring a thing - this house has everything! This year was no exception. Our friend and client, Meg Braff, (great choice Coastal Living!) took on the challenge of creating this year's home in Bridgehampton, NY. Built by Fred Throo Architects and Touch of Grey Construction, the home had 16+ rooms (not including bathrooms), a pool house, several outside terraces, all a blank canvas just aching for Meg's colorful touch! screen_shot_2016-06-02_at_10_37_58_am Each and every room was filled with color and character with beautiful custom details, great art, and superb elements. Well-versed in our brand, Meg was quick to call upon us to help her fill some of the rooms (and ceilings) with vibrant lacquer pieces! meg06 On June 9th, the Show House kicked off with a party hosted by Coastal Living. After months of planning, we finally got to see the house we'd been anticipating for months.   IMG_8905 IMG_8870 IMG_8879IMG_8915 Did we mention the after party was at our Hotel (ouch!). If you plan to visit the Show House, Baron's Cove is the place to stay. Recently revamped by Colleen Bashaw, it's a quintessential beach getaway - casual, welcoming, and a great vibe.

oomph Greenwich

21 West Putnam Avenue

Greenwich CT - 203-518-8068

This week - all your wishes have come true! oomph has finally opened a street-level store/showroom in bucolic Greenwich, CT. IMG_4078 After seven years of being exclusively online and via our trade showroom in High Point, we decided it was high time to open a location where everyone would be welcome to come be inspired, work with clients, see our beautiful products and finishes, and hopefully to bring home a little oomph of their own! IMG_4077 Nestled between Waterworks and Circa lighting, we found the prefect space large enough to fit almost our entire collection, small enough to still be edited and easy to navigate. In addition to the obvious oomph offerings, we have curated a selection of elegant home accessories; everything from vintage Hotel Silver barware to larger than life hurricanes. We've selected a wide range of our favorite design books, and our first "artist in residence" is Daphne Chapin from New Canaan CT!   IMG_4073 IMG_4086
Our showroom will be the first place we introduce new designs and products - for example - our new collaboration with Big Ass Solutions's Haiku fans for the home! We have two of these snazzy lacquered, and Smart!, fans already whirling in the showroom circulating that fresh paint and wallpaper paste smell!

Meet #oomphdog!

Every few months, we'll be updating the look and products in the showroom, so check back often! We are so excited about this next phase of our growing brand and Save the Date for our opening party, May 18, hosted by Greenwich Magazine!

Destination Inspiration: Lyford Cay

January 6th, 2016
Lyford Coffee Table By this time, you all know we name our products after our favorite coastal cities, towns, and retreats. From coast to coast, we island hop north and south, looking for inspiration everywhere we go. Our latest collection was inspired by the Bahamian resort destination of Lyford Cay. As you know, our brand has strong ties to the country that boasts more than 700 islands and a storied past, ranging from pirates to princes. The low-key vibe, colorful environment, happy people, and natural beauty of the Bahamas is what oomph is really all about. This week we head back to the islands for the very intimate and private Lyford Cay Design Weekend, hosted by Amanda Lindroth. Only every few years do these beautiful homes open their doors to an international group of designers and tastemakers for a social media free event! image1_1 image4 image1

One of our latest product launches is he Lyford Cay Collection. The collection includes a "telescoping" coffee table, consisting of three tables that nest together; and a nesting side table. Each is offered in our 16 lacquer finishes or driftwood with a wrapped Raffia (painted, natural, or white-washed) surface. The parsons style tables are incredibly chic with a shapely leg that adds dimension and interest. The Raffia surface give it the "island flare" that is juxtapose to its sleek contemporary lines.

This table is our New Favorite for so many reasons. It's versatility allows for many different tablescaping options and the nesting tables can be pulled out and moved anywhere they are needed. Visit our website and showrooms and see why this is our new favorite table!

IMG_1781 'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the mill, everyone was stirring, no one was still; The shipments were placed on their skids with care, in hopes that FedEx soon would be there. The tables were nestled all snug in their crates, while everyone prays, they won't arrive late. And oomph in the holiday spirit they embrace, will be making merry when we finish this race! The mill will be closed for the week of Christmas until the New Year. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year!

Design in New Canaan

October 7th, 2015
oomph b1 In August, oomph ascended onto local landmark, and former residence of famed architect, Philip Johnson, The Glass House.

philip johnson, glass house, new canaan, ct, 2000. by annie leibovitz.

With us, we brought our most iconic designs - pieces we are known for and are instantly recognizable as oomph. It was a glorious day of photography and we have dedicated a page of on our website to the images and story of oomph at the Glass House. The House is instantly recognizable, quite literally, a glass box that sits on almost 50 acres of bucolic Connecticut countryside. Its image has been widely studied, admired, and published in architecture and design books, magazines, and ad campaigns alike. Hidden away from ogling eyes, the property boasts no less than 13 additional structures, each designed by Johnson and each prime examples of modernist architecture. Today, the property and its out buildings are open to visitors, but this unique property served as the home of Philip Johnson and his partner, art critic and curator, David Whitney, for 58 years. The property and buildings are officially owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, at the direction of Johnson and Whitney, and has been designated a National Historic Landmark. Glass House at Dawn Architect Philip Johnson 1949 As an American brand based in New Canaan, CT, we have always been drawn to the beauty and history of The Glass House.  We have never taken for granted that one of our town’s most treasured landmarks is also so important to American design and architecture. We could not help but want to be a part of it. Although our business has only been around for about seven years, several of our designs have become synonymous to our brand. In other words, instantly recognizable as oomph. For these “iconic” designs, we felt there was no better way to highlight their beauty than at the iconic Glass House. backgammomclub navy i edit hr We chose to photograph both inside and outside the Glass House to capture the different elements of the property.  We “placed” our designs within the house, as works of art might be installed. Colors were chosen to stand out against the very neutral palette of the interiors and the natural world outside.  As a result, our vibrant pieces came to life, and looked as though they were guests at a very chic party.

Trending Now: American Made

September 11th, 2015
USA-300x285 It's September 11, 2015 and today we are reflecting on America, being American, and our memories of that day and the days that followed. Those vivid memories are constant reminders of why it's so important to support Americans and their American businesses. United we are all stronger, and we must continue to build strong Americans and strong, successful American brands.  At oomph, we are very proud to say that our products are 100% Made in America by American craftsmen. There is an endless number of amazing American made companies. Some have been around forever, and some are just getting started. With new platforms like Etsy and Instagram taking over the world, it has become so much easier for small brands to showcase their products and for us to find them! Lucky Us! Since 2012 American Icon, Martha Stewart, has celebrated and put the spot light on a variety of American brands across numerous categories from apparel to food, home decor to cosmetics. A select number of these brands are recognized for their exceptional products and community building in the Martha Stewart American Made Awards each year.     The Made in America or Made in the U.S.A. stamp have become synonymous with high-quality, high-integrity products. We have found that it's an incredibly important piece of our message to customer. Designers and their clients are more than willing to pay a little extra to know that their new piece was hand-made in a factory here in Connecticut, versus having travelled across the world. I'm sure that many of our peer companies in design would say the same thing:  Schoolhouse Electric,  Tillett's Textiles, The New TraditionalistsReprotiqueSimon Pearce, just to name a few.  Dek

Other brands we love and are truly American made include J.Press, New Balance, L.L Bean, Filson, Clarke's Botanicals, and Jason Wu.

And of course, we cannot forget all those amazing Wineries and Distilleries throughout the Country!!!   distillery2
